"People don't realize electric rates have tiers (much like the tax code) so the more you use, the higher rate you pay. We have a 3700 square-foot house, a pool and three teenagers (lots of electronics) and our monthly bill could easily run north of $600. Thanks to our solar system, last month’s bill was $196. With the state subsidies it was a no-brainer.
My consultant Mike Powers was terrific in explaining my options, and the security of knowing Home Depot stood behind my warranty gave us real peace of mind. Both sales and installation processes with Stellar Solar were flawless...installation was quick and easy, taking only two and a half days from start to finish. Stellar did all the paperwork for the state rebate and the utility, and all I did was pay the net cost to Stellar.
I went to take out the trash a couple months back and my inverter was in failure mode. I called Stellar and the techs were out THAT AFTERNOON! The problem was diagnosed and the inverter changed out the next morning. No questions asked...terrific!"

"I decided to install a photovoltaic system because the financial incentives given out by the state and federal governments were compelling, after considering all the costs and cash flow issues. I could go into more detail, but the bottom line is that at present, the real cost to me is a couple of hundred dollars per year over what I would have to send to SDG&E had I not installed the system. That few hundred I actually receive back as equity in the system as I pay back the 30 yr loan at 6%. So in the first year, the true net costs were a wash over doing nothing, given that a solar system has some value when selling a home. Indeed it does, and I expect the desirability of an installed system to the average home shopper to grow over time. In five years, given the rise in electricity costs from SDG&E, I'll be making money with my own electric power plant, considering what I would have to spend if I bought it from SDG&E.
This wasn't a very hard decision to make. I only had to decide if I wanted to send my energy money to SDG&E, and kiss it goodbye, or send it to the bank and slowly get it back as equity. My energy costs are now essentially fixed, while those from SDG&E will continue to rise, maybe drastically, over the years. I lose only if SDG&E's energy prices fall significantly, the system degrades significantly over the next 10 years, or the panels fail in other ways that the warranty won't cover. I judge that risk tolerable.
I selected Stellar Solar as their bid was the lowest and they could start the installation in a timely manner given the state of my rather extensive home remodeling effort. I wasn't disappointed."
