Many roofs in San Diego have flat oriented roofs which require solar panels to be tilted in order to pick up the most sun. Generally, panels will be tilted towards the south, at a 17 or so degree angle to pick up optimum exposure. Asphalt flat roofs typically are suited to this type of installation, as they allow for roof penetration. Flat roofs with a TPO membrane typically require a non-penetrating system, which requires a different setup.
